Rete ferroviaria Italiana (Ferrovie dello Stato's subsidiary) just awarded to a group of companies headed by Thales a market for security systems in 86 rail stations, 11 control rooms and 7 police control rooms.
The company will have a significant role in the current updating of the Italian rail system especially through the integration of its security systems in the whole country, implying: intrusion detection, alarms, access control, video surveillance, passive protections.
Each control room will be able to control different types of applications, to integrate different systems and to manage video recording, in order to check the security conditions.
The project also includes: environmental surveys and researches on the sites where the security systems will be installed; and covers all achievement of all the project activity phases; as well as the installation, the integration, the test and the staff training. The contract value is around 15 million Euro.
The deal which will be accomplished in two years, reflects the country's wish to reinforce the security of the critical infrastructures. Paolo Aielli, Thales Italia Corporate Country Director, says: "This is a significant win for us and we are pleased to be involved in a project that forms part of a new era for the italian network. This success confirms Thales's strength in delivering security solutions for ground transportation systems across the Italy and is due to our heritage of delivering secure solutions and systems for complex, integrated projects of this scale."
